Prior sanction must for arrest under SC/ST Act, rules SC

Raising concerns over the misuse of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes Act, the Supreme Court on Tuesday reportedly ruled out that preliminary enquiry must be conducted before arresting anyone under the law. The apex court also reportedly introduced a provision of anticipatory bail and added that 15-16% of the total number of complaints filed in 2015 under the Act were false.
