Pattabiram Bridge still under preparation

The project to build a bridge in Pattabiram, Chennai-Thiruvallur high road over the level crossing is still under preparation while the sanction was obtained in 2011. With over 15 pairs of local EMU trains passing through the track to military siding, inconvenience is caused to the public because the traffic jams for a kilometer when the railway gates are closed. Reportedly the Southern Railway department is ready to start the construction but is waiting for state government approval on traffic diversion.

Actor Rahul Ravindran slammed the e-commerce portal Snapdeal's ad as ‘sexist’ and his wife singer Chinmayi immediately approved his tweet. Rahul also slammed sexism in a series of tweets and called for gender neutrality. In his tweet, Rahul referred to Snapdeal’s tweet, which now has been deleted. The tweet contained a movie clip of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan running accompanied by the text, “Running to the door before your husband finds out how much online shopping you did.”

Boys are better at maths, science: Study

Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany reportedly found that girls overall performance overshadow that of boys, however, boys seemed to perform better than girls in mathematics and science. The authors of the study at TUM examine the school performance of more than one million people who attended a primary school, a secondary school or a university at the time of the surveys summarized.

Bengaluru receives highest rainfall in over a decade

With Koramangala getting the worst hit, rainfall in Bengaluru has touched new record last night, being highest rainfall in over a decade. Bengaluru recorded heavy rainfall of 14.4 cm in the last 24 hours, reports suggest.  According to reports, places including Koramangala, HSR Layout, Shantinagar, Wilson Garden, K R Puram, Anugraha Layout, Ulsoor, Vivek Nagar, Murugesh Palya and Gurappana Palya on Bannerghatta Road, have been flooded with almost knee-level water on the streets.

Metro slashes up to 50% on Independence Day

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to slash fares up to 50% across various categories based on the distance travelled, on the occasion of India's 71st Independence day on Tuesday. This is reportedly the first time Delhi Metro has reduced fares to mark a national holiday. Further, parking lots in metro stations will remain closed till 2p.m. tomorrow.

SPG officers to get highest dress allowance for looking good

The Special Protection Group personnel will be getting higher rate of dress allowance than what was recommended in 7th pay commission. "For looking good in their uniform, the government has decided to grant the highest dress allowance", a government official reportedly said. Reportedly, the operational SPG personnel will receive ₹27,800 annually and non-operational personnel will get ₹21,225

Traffic cop gets slapped for stopping man from jumping signal

A Maharashtra motorcycle rider slapped a traffic constable for allegedly stopping him for jumping a traffic signal. The man reportedly was not even wearing helmet. Sequoia Capital India and US-based Norwest Venture Partners invested Rs. 135 crore each for 10% stake of the Rs 1300 crore company.

UP: Woman branded witch, killed

In a village near Agra in Uttar Pradesh, a woman was beaten to death by villagers who accused her of being a witch. She was attacked while returning home after she went to relieve herself. Villagers allegedly said the 62-year-old woman was trying to cut the hair of a young girl sleeping outside her home. The victim’s son reportedly said, “My mother begged them to spare her, saying she was not a witch, but they did not listen”.

15-year-old girl pregnant after being allegedly raped by cousins

A 15-year-old girl from Haryana has been reportedly found seven-month pregnant after two of her cousins allegedly raped her several times. The incident came to light after she complained of stomach ache and was taken to the hospital. The police have arrested one of the accused, who is a juvenile, while the other guy escaped.

Matrimony broker threatens employees with dressing room video

According to reports, a Chennai-based matrimony service provider was arrested for allegedly recording his staff in the dressing room when they were changing clothes and blackmailing them with it. Reportedly, the accused K Kathiresan had recorded CCTV footages of his employees changing clothes, and went on to threaten the employees when they asked for salary dues to be paid. Meanwhile, Kathiresan was remanded to judicial custody and has been booked for sexual harassment under section 354.

Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday reportedly said involving women and children in protests has become a fashion in the state. Referring to the Tirupur incidence of a policeman slapping a woman participant at a protest, CM reportedly said, “I have already explained the Tirupur incident in detail. It has become a fashion for protesters to involve women and children. Police are doing their duty”. The comments came after Congress legislature party leader accused the government of not solving issues like anti-liquor protests and accused police of being insensitive to women and children in protests citing Tirupur incidence.
